Oil dilution from DPF regeneration During active DPF regeneration, additional diesel fuel is injected on the exhaust stroke. A small amount can pass the piston rings and enter the sump, gradually diluting the engine oil. Frequent short journeys increase regeneration frequency and worsen dilution. Never fill engine oil above the maximum mark. Reduce oil service intervals to 6,000–8,000 miles and monitor oil level readings regularly. Longer journeys at sustained speed help reduce excessive regeneration cycles.
EGR cooler failure Internal EGR cooler leakage allows coolant to enter the intake system, resulting in white exhaust smoke, unexplained coolant loss, and potential cylinder head damage if left unresolved. Replace the EGR cooler and valve assembly. Flush the intake and cooling system thoroughly and inspect the cylinder head for warping or gasket damage caused by coolant contamination.
Injector seal leaks Copper injector seals deteriorate over time, allowing combustion gases to leak past the injector seat. Typical symptoms include a distinctive "chuffing" noise, rough running, and diesel fumes within the engine bay. Replace all injector seals and copper washers.
